Who We Are
The Centre for Epilepsy and Seizure Education in British Columbia
We exist so that no one has to face epilepsy by themselves.
We are here for people living with seizures, for families and caregivers, and for teachers, employers, and friends.
If epilepsy is part of your life in any way, you belong here.
Our Mission
ESEBC fosters resilience and hope in British Columbians affected by epilepsy and seizures by offering person-centered support, education, and resources.
Our Vision
A future where all British Columbians with epilepsy and seizure flourish and thrive without barriers.
Our Values
ESEBC uses the following values to guide and inform our decision-making, interactions, and approach to service delivery:
- Compassion
- Empowerment
- Inclusivity
- Integrity
- Collaboration
Walking Beside You
Epilepsy is more than a diagnosis. It can affect school, work, confidence, relationships, independence, and mental health. The challenges can feel overwhelming, especially in the beginning. Our team walks beside people through those moments. We listen, we explain, we connect, and we help individuals and families move forward with greater understanding and support.
What Support Looks Like at ESEBC
Support can look different for everyone. At ESEBC, we meet people where they are and respond to what they need in that moment.
- Answering questions after a new diagnosis
- Helping parents and caregivers advocate at school
- Providing epilepsy education in workplaces and communities
- Connecting people with others who share similar experiences
- Offering reassurance during difficult or uncertain times
Sometimes support is practical guidance. Sometimes it is community. Sometimes it is simply knowing someone cares.
Who We Support
We support people of all ages across British Columbia. This includes individuals living with epilepsy, parents and caregivers, youth and young adults, educators, employers, healthcare professionals, and anyone who wants to better understand seizures. Whether someone is newly diagnosed or has lived with epilepsy for decades, we are here.
Education Changes Lives
Knowledge builds confidence. Through presentations across British Columbia, we teach people how seizures happen, how to respond, and how to support someone living with epilepsy. When understanding grows, stigma decreases. When people feel prepared, fear is replaced with compassion. Communities become safer and more inclusive.
Our Commitment
We are committed to reducing stigma, improving safety, and making sure people across British Columbia can access the education and support they need. Above all, we are committed to meeting every person with compassion, dignity, and respect.
